Plaza Mayor

Rectangular in shape with arcades, it is the place where the weekly market was traditionally held and in the foral era, during the major festivals, bulls used to run. It still preserves column shafts from the Roman public square. In it is the church of Santa Maria and the Almudín door, where formerly the wheat was deposited for the supply of the population and its sale to individuals; in it you can see the four-barred shield of the crown of Aragon. 💡Curiosities It was the commercial and cultural center of medieval Saguntine life. 🗺 How to get there. From the Sagunto Town Hall you can reach the Plaza Mayor in 2 minutes walking. 📍Surroundings In its vicinity is the Municipal Palace and the remains of the so-called temple of Diana. From the Plaza Mayor depart the streets Mayor and Caballeros -main urban roads until the 19th century- where you can still find some ancestral homes with heraldic coats of arms.
