Roman Forum

The Roman Forum, the political, social and religious center of the city, follows the architectural design of a square enclosed by porticoes. Its plan and elevations form a perfectly proportioned unit, despite the fact that they combine an older temple with the rest of the Augustan buildings that surround the central open space. In the public square there were pedestals for equestrian statues, votive altars, portraits of magistrates and dedications to the emperors. In it were congregated the most painstaking works of architectural craftsmanship: columns and pilasters of colored stucco. 💡 Curiosities The south side of the square, and through which the square was accessed, is delimited by a double portico built on top of a large water cistern 67 m. long, which collected water from the roofs of the buildings. 🗺 How to get there? From the Sagunto City Hall you can reach the Roman Forum in 13 minutes walking. 📍Surroundings It is located just 6 minutes from the Castle of Sagunto.
